Each channel has its own rules, metrics and way of managing the relationship with the customer. AI agents are introducing a new layer above these channels, one that is beginning to determine what customers see before they even choose where to look.

A conversational assistant does more than describe a brand. Increasingly, it supports people throughout the decision-making process: comparing alternatives, filtering options, recommending the product best suited to a need expressed in natural language and, in some contexts, initiating the purchase directly. A new intermediary is emerging between the brand and the consumer, operating across two dimensions at once: narrative and transaction.

Two dimensions converging

Until recently, we treated them separately: brand narrative belonged to the world of communication and positioning, while the purchasing experience belonged to e-commerce and conversion. AI agents are bringing them together. The way a brand is described by a conversational system directly influences whether and how that brand enters the consideration set at the moment of choice.

This changes the nature of competition. It is no longer only about being present in the right channels with the right creative assets, but about being readable, consistent and recommendable to a system that evaluates products and brands on behalf of the user. A poorly structured catalogue, incomplete product information or an unclear value proposition no longer affect organic positioning alone: they make the brand less usable by the agents that are becoming the new entry points to purchase.

From channel management to presence within systems

The strategic consequence is a shift in logic. Managing channels meant controlling the spaces in which the brand appeared. Managing a brand’s presence within AI systems means ensuring that it is interpreted correctly when it is not speaking for itself. These are two different disciplines, and the second requires greater attention to elements that traditional marketing often considered back-office activities: the quality of product data, the consistency of information across sources and the clarity with which the reasons to prefer an offer are communicated.

In this sense, augmented commerce represents a different way for demand and supply to meet, rewarding brands that have made their proposition understandable to a machine even before it reaches a person.

Making the brand readable where decisions are made

Intarget’s contribution comes from the intersection of brand strategy, product data and the customer journey. The work begins by analysing how the brand is interpreted, cited and recommended by AI agents at the moments that influence customer choice. This makes it possible to identify where the brand narrative loses strength, where commercial information lacks consistency and how content and data can be improved to make the value proposition clearer and more recognisable, including within a conversation with an assistant.

This approach connects two areas that are often managed separately: brand positioning and the quality of product information. Within AI systems, however, both contribute to the same outcome: they determine how the brand is represented and considered at the moment of decision.

What to put on the agenda now

The issue organisations now need to address is how prepared their brands are to be read, evaluated and selected by AI agents. This requires clear and structured product information, an explicit value proposition and distinctive elements that can be recognised even by a system with no direct knowledge of the brand.

Companies that treat visibility within AI ecosystems as a business priority will gain an advantage as these tools play an increasingly important role in purchasing decisions. For others, the risk is becoming less visible and less recommendable precisely as recommendations gain greater influence over the decision-making process.

In digital commerce, we have learned to think in terms of channels: the website, marketplaces, social media and the sales network.
